Tips For Cast And Splint Care

Those who have been given a cast or a splint to help with their injury must know how to take care of these medical devices. A failure to do so can damage them and prevent the desired healing from taking place. Our team of Orthopedic Hewlett NY have seen this situation before, and want to help you prevent this from happening. Taking care of these devices does not have to be difficult as long as you follow the below instructions:

  • Always keep casts and splints dry
  • Avoid placing pressure on casts and splints
  • When taking a shower or bath, remove your splint or cover your cast with a plastic bag
  • Never place objects inside your cast
  • Don’t use sharp objects to scratch itches under your cast or splint

home exercises from orthopedist hewlett ny

The closures and limitations of gyms and other fitness facilities have thrown a wrench into the workout routines for many people. However, it is still possible to maintain both muscle and joint strength from the comfort of your own home. At Advanced Orthopedics & Joint Preservation, our team understands the important link between exercise and remaining healthy. To help our patients increase their chances of remaining pain-free, our Orthopedic Hewlett NY would like to share some simple at-home exercises that anyone can perform.

Diamond Pushups

  1. Lie flat on the ground placing your hands under your chest.
  2. Make a diamond shape with your hands and begin to push your body off the ground.
  3. Try to keep your back flat and core tight while doing so.
  4. Once your arms are completely straight, begin to lower your body back down to the ground.
  5. For optimal results, our Orthopedic Hewlett NY recommends repeating this exercise for 10-20 reps for three sets.

Squats

  1. Stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. Keeping the weight on the balls of your feet, begin to bend your knees and bring your body towards the floor.
  3. Keep your back straight, core tight, eyes forward and hips out on your descent.
  4. Aim to bring your knees to a 90-degree angle before returning to a standing position.
  5. Perform three sets of 15-30 repetitions.

Situps

  1. Lie on the ground with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
  2. Cross your arms over your chest.

The Benefits Of Orthopedic Telemedicine Care

telehealth from ortho in hewlett ny

With social distancing guidelines being administered across various parts of the country and the rest of the world, healthcare practices must work to keep both patients and medical professionals alike protected. At Advanced Orthopedics & Joint Preservation, we’re committed to providing our patients with care, no matter the circumstances. By utilizing telemedicine services as an option, our Orthopedic Hewlett NY can provide variations of this care without the need for physical visits. To learn more about telemedicine, and what makes it so beneficial, please consult with our staff by scheduling your online appointment

What Is Telemedicine?

As you already know, making traditional medical visits involves physically coming into the medical facility. However, for some patients, this is not a safe option. When you require care but cannot leave the house, our Orthopedic Hewlett NY can still help you with the use of telemedicine.

Telemedicine is used to simulate a physical visit for those unable to meet in person. Although this was first done using phones, with technological advancements, telemedicine now encompasses the use of video technology as well.

The Benefits

As previously stated, telemedicine is beneficial to both patients and practitioners alike. That is one of the reasons our Orthopedic Hewlett NY offers telemedicine services as an option for care. By doing so, we allow those who seek orthopedic care with us to reap the following benefits of telemedicine services:

  • Ability to receive care without needing to break the current social distancing guidelines.
  • Limit the need for time-consuming commutes to the doctor’s office.
  • The quality of diagnosis and treatment methods remain at the same standard of traditional visits.
